Oasis Clinic specializes in treating the underserved. The small Oakland-based non-profit has made a name for itself in the world of Hepatitis C treatment for its focus on current and former intravenous drug users and dedication to treating this population without judgment or stigma. This film shows the resilience of Oasis patients as well as the struggles of keeping the small community clinic afloat.
The primary mission of O.A.S.I.S. is to provide high-quality medical care, develop successful models of clinical intervention, and develop and provide educational materials for the medically marginalized. The clinic serves a multi-ethnic community, approximately ⅓ of whom are medically uninsured or underinsured and over 50% of whom have substance abuse histories—including alcohol abuse—of greater than 20 years duration. The clinic’s treatment services are available to all persons, regardless of how they contracted hepatitis C.
